My Three Words for 2025

I’ve been doing this exercise with Chris Brogan for many years, probably since he started in 2008. I haven’t always stuck with my words all year, but I usually go through the exercise at the beginning of the year and it does help me at times when I have some big decisions to make. I do really like the idea.

And this year I AM going to write them down every day. (Well, try for at least a little while.)

So without further ado, here are my words and explanations:

GATHER

I like gathering people together to make something happen. I think you can always accomplish more if you’re able to gather people. I mean, every meeting is a gathering. I like mobilizing people to make a difference. So, gather will help me do that more. The other use for it is to make sure I gather information. I can do more research and learning about the things that are important. So, I’ll do that too.

CONSIDER

Consider the lilies of the field. I like that phrase. To me, ‘consider’ means to think about the backstory or the perspective or thoughts and feelings of other people. Make sure they feel heard. Also, consider all the unseen things or events and experiences that have led up to the experience I’m having right now. There’s a reason things are happening the way they are, and you don’t always know why.

If I consider more, I’ll be in touch with others and be able to see multiple interpretations of events.

PUSH

Push equals effort against resistance or an obstacle. I need to push more when I come across difficult or uncomfortable situations. I usually avoid conflict or walk away when conversations get uncomfortable, so maybe I can push a little more this year and let my thoughts be heard. Also, I need to push more so I exercise, or write a post, or do something difficult or that I don’t feel like it sometimes. Push!

And those are my words. It’s going to be a good year.
